October in Flagstaff 2026: Homecoming, Pumpkin Walk, and Fall Around Town

Aspens are at peak color, NAU Homecoming fills campus October 15-17, and the Pumpkin Walk closes out the month at The Arboretum. Here is the October calendar Flagstaff locals actually plan around.

October is Flagstaff's showpiece month: the aspens around the San Francisco Peaks are at or near peak color right now, Northern Arizona University hosts its Homecoming weekend October 15-17, and The Arboretum at Flagstaff closes its season with the Pumpkin Walk on October 24. This guide covers the month's marquee events with dates straight from the organizers, where to see fall color this week now that Lockett Meadow is closed for the season, and a brief autumn reading of the Flagstaff housing market.

Fall color is at its peak right now

Flagstaff's aspen season typically peaks around October 9, with the best viewing roughly October 7 through 15, according to fall foliage trackers, and higher-elevation aspens on the Peaks are already in their prime this week. Good news for color chasers: Arizona Snowbowl Road and the Aspen Corner area remain open and are the classic peak-color viewpoints this year. The important change for 2026 is Lockett Meadow: the Coconino National Forest has closed Lockett Meadow Road to all traffic, including foot and bicycle traffic, through November for maintenance work, so the meadow and Inner Basin Trail are not options this fall. Plan foliage outings around the open Peaks viewpoints instead, and expect weekend traffic on Snowbowl Road while color is at its best.

If you are timing a house-hunting trip around the foliage, October is also a beautiful month to see neighborhoods under the aspens. For the full rundown on when color moves through the area and where to photograph it, see the site's fall aspen season guide.

NAU Homecoming: October 15-17

Northern Arizona University's Homecoming runs October 15 through 17, and it is the biggest alumni weekend of the year in Flagstaff. The schedule per NAU includes the annual bonfire and pep rally, the alumni band reunion on Friday, October 16, the alumni brunch, and the Homecoming football game against Portland State at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 17 at the Walkup Skydome. Alumni and their families fill the downtown restaurants, breweries, and hotels that weekend, which makes it a good sample of how university events drive demand across Flagstaff's visitor economy and short-term rental market.

For anyone selling or listing this month, Homecoming weekend is also a genuine showing opportunity: it brings out-of-town visitors into town who are actively considering Flagstaff, many of them alumni with a soft spot for the area.

Pumpkin Walk at The Arboretum: October 24

The Arboretum at Flagstaff, at 4001 S. Woody Mountain Road, wraps up its season with the Pumpkin Walk on Saturday, October 24 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Hundreds of lit jack-o'-lanterns line the grounds, with food trucks, drinks, kids' activities, and festive music, and costumes are encouraged. Advance tickets are $19 for non-members, $14 for members, and $8 for youth ages 5 to 17, with children under 5 free; at-the-door pricing runs higher, so organizers recommend buying ahead. Pro tips straight from The Arboretum: the garden is closed to the public that day until 3:30 p.m. when the walk begins, parking fills up so plan to arrive early (families can drop off at the visitor center), and bring a flashlight or headlamp because the walk runs after dark.

Want the carve-ahead experience? Mother Road Brewing Company hosts a Community Pumpkin Carving on Friday, October 23 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. to set the stage.

More around town this month

The rest of October rounds out with a steady calendar. The Flagstaff Plein Air Painting and Photography Festival runs October 4 through 25, with artists working outdoors across town and the region. The Flagstaff Urban Flea Market sets up on Historic Route 66 on the second and fourth Saturdays through the end of the month, so October 10 and 24. Local event listings also show a leadership conference, Live2Lead Northern Arizona, at the High Country Conference Center on October 23; as with any third-party listing, confirm details and ticket availability with the organizer before making plans.

What October means for the Flagstaff market

The fall season gives the market its own rhythm, and the published data through late summer and early fall still reads as a balanced market with a firm price level. Redfin's tracker put Flagstaff's median sale price near $700,000 over the three months through mid-2026, roughly flat year over year, while Resideline's September 2026 update reported a median sold price near $660,750 across 544 closed sales over the trailing six months. On the supply side, Houzeo counted roughly 490 active listings with about three months of supply in its 2026 tracking, and other sources report inventory up from a year ago, all of which points to more choices and more negotiating room than buyers saw a few years ago.

The commercial side stays tight. Analysts covering Flagstaff commercial real estate describe low vacancy relative to larger metros, office demand concentrated in small suites, medical office, and owner-user space, and typical office and flex asking rents around $24 per square foot per year. New light-industrial suites near the I-40 corridor came online over the summer, adding rare modern industrial supply to a constrained market. For buyers, sellers, and tenants alike, October is a working month, not a winding-down one: the calendar is full, buyers are active before the holidays, and serious sellers who price to the current data keep seeing real traffic.

The bottom line

October delivers the best of Flagstaff, from peak aspen color this week to Homecoming October 15-17 and the Pumpkin Walk on October 24. If you are visiting to see the color, thinking about moving to Flagstaff, or weighing a fall sale or investment, this month is the right time to see the city at its best and to talk through what the current market data means for your plan.
